By how much? Muscogee County is bound to surpass Richmond County within the next year.

Columbus is on the move and isn't looking back. Great things are coming our way. Great article.

Richmond County's population was estimated at about 202,590+ in June 2012.
Muscogee County was estimated at about 198,415+ in 2012.

I think I called this. There wasn't much of a gap to begin with.

If Columbus does happen to reach Richmond County's population my next year,it really wouldn't make that much of a difference. Augusta would still attract a stunning amount of more new businesses and companies that Columbus does, and that's not likely to change anytime soon. Augusta has one of the 100 largest MSAs in the United States...Columbus does not. There is a large difference between the two. Augusta is in between two state capitals. Augusta's interstates are clearly more traveled. I don't usually have to pass through Columbus going anywhere.

Which it will. How can you prove that? Columbus is near 2 state capitols so what does that mean?

*yawn* Yet another cripple fight?

Columbus passed Augusta due to BRAC--because the federal government mandated military personnel to move there--and ripples from that.

Metro population matters more, but Richmond County's growth has been pretty stagnant lately and that's a problem.

Those state capitals aren't as major and as visited. Not sure what area you are looking for proof in though. The article proves that Augusta already got a lot more new businesses and jobs than Columbus within the same time period. I think it said something along the lines of 42+ new businesses in Augusta compared to Columbus's 17. It will be years before the Columbus metro or CSA reach Augusta's current metro population and have the same attraction to businesses. What other proof do you need?

I wouldn't really call it stagnant. It gained over 6,000 residents between 2010-2012. Columbus obviously gained more.

Which capitols are you referring to? I'm referring to Atlanta and Montgomery.
