Hi,
I am planning a trip to Round Top Tx...from an online search I think the closest major airport to Round Top is Austin/ Bergstrom. Is this correct? It's about 100 miles from my destination. Would Houston be closer?

Any advice or info is appreciated! I am not a frequent flyer.

Austin Bergstrom is your best bet. It looks like it may be approximately the same distance to Houston, but both airports in Houston are on the opposite side so you'd have to get across Houston just to get on your way to Round Top and that's no fun. Austin is easy to fly into and out of and you'd already be on the Southeast side of town which is the direction you want to go to get to Round Top.

Are you flying in to go to Royers Cafe and have the fried chicken? I know it's famous, but never heard of somebody flying in for it! hehe...

ABIA (Bergstrom) is your best bet as it on the east side of town - closest to Round Top. The two Houston airports are on the North and South sides of town, not necessarily convenient to anywhere west of the Houston metro. The problem may be direct flights to ABIA. You might end up actually having to take a puddlejumper from Houston to get to ABIA, which at that point you might as well just save the money/headache and drive from Houston. I would check availability of flights into ABIA as a first step.

Thank you so much for the info. So do you think it would be a shorter drive from ABIA to Round Top than from Houston too?

Yes, but only by about 15-20 miles.

If you can get a direct flight into ABIA, take it. If you can't, then get a direct flight into George Bush (Houston) Intercontinental.

I personally wouldn't deal with a layover/changing planes at Bush just ot get to ABIA.

My Dad lives in TX and he was wondering if San Antonio would be closer to Round Top. Anybody know? I didn't even think of that before. I know there's a major airport there as well, right?

Wow...I was certain Round Top was a typo for "Round Rock." Obviously, I was mistaken. Where in the world is Round Top? I'm clueless.

I think San Antonio is further away "as the crow flies". I think Austin is your best bet, another advantage of ABIA is that since it's on the east side of town, you pretty much don't have to worry about traffic (since you'll be headed east), so you have a lot of flexibility in the timing of your arrival. At this point I think you should shoot for convenience since the actual times are not too terribly far apart.

Are you going for the summer festival?

MrsJT, Round Top is east of Austin, off of 290. It's a tiny little place but they have a wonderful concert hall and lot's of arts/music activities like their summer festival and institute. It's too bad that they are as far away as they are, we'd probably go out there more frequently if they were closer, lots of great musical performances (mainly classical).
