I have not eaten at the Salt Lick yet, but it does sell beef ribs on the website menu. Bar-B-Que - all - www.saltlickbbq.com (http://www.saltlickbbq.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&category=0100 - broken link)

They are on my list of places to try as soon as I get my fill of Chicken and Dumplings. Chicken and Dumplings in Central Texas
Sorry! I meant RUBY'S.

BBQ like that can ruin you for all other offerings. I don't want the piddly BBQ that you can get in town. To get the real stuff, you are going to have to drive. If I want smoked Brisket, I have to take a trip to Lockhart. It's like the law or something.

Or, I just do it at home on my smoker, if I have a day to kill. If that's the case, you don't need a specialty butcher. Just Go to HEB, flag someone down behind the counter at the meat market, and tell them what you want. A lot of people don't realize this about HEB, but if you ask the butcher to do a special cut for you, they generally will. If they don't have what you want, they will order it. Just dont' expect same day service, HEB, like most people, appreciates a little advanced notice. I buy their brisket straight from the case, they know what they are doing to begin with. If you don't like their rib offerings though, ask them about it. Tell them what you are looking for. They will get it for you, OR, they will tell you where to go to get it.

Wow!! Never thought of going to the grocery store to get special cuts of meat. Maybe that's a southern hospitality type thing down here. I'm from Philly and that would NEVER happen there. I would have to find me a butcher. I'll try what you said since there's also an HEB right down the street too.

Ah, grasshopper, many exist in Austin for much longer than six months before they learn of the difference. Your enlightenment may bring you much delight. Not that Rudy's is bad, Ruby's is a different experience.

Ok there Steve!! Thanks for the info!! By the way, I saw a reply you made to some lady a little while back in another forum and you had me crackin up!! She wanted to move down here but she was sooooo paranoid over snakes and you showed her a picture of what a common greenbelt looked like and told her to disregard the snake in the picture. It was only a western diamondback rattlesnake in the picture by the way. Those suckers can get pretty big and thick. You probably made her poop her pants!! Great job there big guy!!

Have had great beef ribs at Iron Works, and Mann's

Had Monster Beef ribs at Blacks in Lockhart, but it is a drive.
That bone was too big for my dog, had to be 2 feet long :-)
