Being from Hawaii, we need to be close to the water if we live in Austin. Within walking distance would be ideal but not absolutely necessary.

What specific areas have lake access for boating? Please provide street and/or park names if possible.

Thanks!

In Steiner, the nearest boat dock is under 2 miles from our house (would-be).

With all this rain, I think "walking distance" is about 6 days way for us, but we didn't pay a premium for that priviledge.

Anyways, I don't know the names of the subdivisions, but check out the Hudson Bend area. Just Google Carlos 'n Charlies, and then put it in Hydrid mode to see the streets and the satellite photo. I don't know the prices, but a friend at work lives in the area, and they have a neighborhood park they walk to, and it gets them on the lake.

This is Lake Travis by the way, and the water is about 80F or hotter most of the summer, whereras Lake Austin is colder. Also, a drive downtown will be even longer than Steiner or River Place, unless the other direction through Lakeway somehow gets you there quicker.

I moved to Lakeway and we have direct access to Lake Travis here. There is a park with swimming area(it's much more inland now-covers one of the playgrounds for the moment!) right on the lake. There'a also a marina and you can launch kayaks and so on.. It's a beautiful area, very hilly and right now-green!
