I live in 78729...looking into tv and internet options and notice Time Warner and ATT Uverse are almost same in pricing.
What is the good bad and ugly about both?

Thanks

They are both awful, greedy pigs.

But before we get too far into it, better check that you have access to both.

We had Time-Warner for years, but changed over to ATT Uverse because we had numerous picture quality problems with T-W and poor service when we needed assistance. I like the ATT DVR recording system much better. We can set either DVR box to record a show and then watch it from any location in the house. The internet interface also allows me to schedule show recordings from either the web page or through the television interface. You can be away from home and set the DVR to record something via the internet. The quality of the cable connection is also much better, we used to get a lot of image freezes and pixilation with T-W.

Go with whichever one will give you the best deal. They're both about the same IMO.

Ok thanks all....I get both, but was leaning towards ATT Uverse and CptnRn convinced me. They both are like a $1 or so apart so the price isn't much difference. I thought too ATT offered more then TW did

If you wan the multi room set up you pay extra for each receiver and you also have to have them as your internet provider to do that. You may get more channels with TW but ATT has far better technology and it's almost never out.

How do they compare Internet-wise? It seems like TW offers faster options, no?

In some areas TWC has faster options but you are also on a cable modem, so your peak speed will be affected by your neighborhood usage. I don't know what Austin TWC is like but elsewhere I have never noticed a huge hit from this.

AT&T is DSL via Uverse which is "technically" fiber to the neighborhood (and home in some places) but it's underutilized for the time being. They offer up to 20-25 mbps down and I think 5 up, but that should be "your" line and it doesn't matter how many neighbors are using it as well. That's plenty for most things but IIRC TWC goes up to 50 in some neighborhoods. Their web site can tell you more than we can.

I have Uverse and after about 2 years they just jacked up my prices. I called this week and said they had 1 chance to lower my bill before they lose me as a customer.

She lowered it below my original price and said it was good for 6 months. I said not good enough I want 12 months and she gave it to me.

So their price increase cost them more that what I had been paying.

Negotiate.
