Gueros has always sucked! Always. I don't know how they manage to be so popular. Those of us who live in the area tend to go to Curra's!

Also went to Whole Foods. Again, more snooty ppl. A contrast to other Whole Foods I have been to in the"Great Lakes". I noticed an air of impatience towards my party by not only the folks who work there but those who hang out there.

Not what I expected from such a company...hmmm, in fact I think I'm gonna email them about this.....

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Don't tell them that. Don't want Curra's to get too busy.

My question is, is Austin pretty diverse? I am half a Jew but consider myself non religious, I like diversity!!

There's about 8,000 threads on this board dealing with the diversity question. Bottom line, it depends on how you define the concept of diversity.

Ah, I see..I will look at them. I am not expecting NYC diversity...but some diversity to an extent.

Short answer... you won't find NYC diversity...but some diversity to an extent.

The HEB supermarket at Village Center is stacked high with aisles full of Kosher for Passover foods right now, which occasionally seems to be a little puzzling to the Japanese and Chinese and Korean residents of the neighborhood doing their weekend shopping there.

If they want a taste of home instead of matzos I guess they'll need to run over to the Asian supermarket at the Chinatown Center on North Lamar, or maybe try one of the Viet Namese, Thai, Sechuan, Mandarin, or Japanese restaurants there. Then on their way home they can stop at the new Mi Tienda, HEB's themed Hispanic supermarket, to pick up authentic Mexican food.

Matter of fact, you'll find pockets of all the usual suspects in Austin, and the largest Hindu temple in North America is just a short drive south, although, oddly, there are hardly any Italians that I'm aware of. And as a token of that civic lack, although there are lots of pizza places around, there's only a handful of good red sauce restaurants.

But the center of town, as you've been reading, is largely the domain of hipsters.

Yes! Gueros has completely ordinary food, and you have to wait a long time for it.

Hopdoddy's next door on the other hand has amazing burgers and craft beer. Hip people work there, but friendly as heck.

I find it interesting that Fiesta is so often forgotten when talking about "the center of town" or shopping for diverse grocery ingredients.
