My wife and I are moving back to Austin with a 7 yr old. Lots of friends at Highland Park. Great feedback. All we need now is a place to rent until we buy. Looked at everything in MLS. Does anyone know of a place not listed that might be available in Aug? $1500-$2500 range. 3 bd - 2bth preference. Backyard for old, lazy dog. Any help would be appreciated.

1500-2500 sounds pretty cheap. Are you looking at an apartment? Mortgages would go for about 3000-4000 there.

Try the neighborhood just east of Mopac and south of Hancock. I would join their listserv and ask them directly. Also, you could try driving around. Some people skip the MLS and just do a sign in the yard instead.

I know folks in that area who have a house that they rent, they almost never list it with an agent and have it in the MLS, they do a sign in the yard and word of mouth. Rents fast!
