Howdy folks...

I am looking for some help in decorating my new home, have some options

1. Hire a decorating veteran
2. Hire a decorator from one of the art schools

Now the first option is easy but might be costly so wondering how to approach for the second option. Can i just call the school and ask for someone who can work with me? ( Might be a student who is ready for graduation and looking for a project? )

What do you guys think about this and how should i approach the options?

As always, your opinion is very much appreciated...

An ASID certified designer can get discounts perhaps not available to students. In the case of my darling, I'm pretty sure the discounts she finds for her clients will cover her hourly fees. Not all designers will work that way as many of them include the discounts they receive as part of their fee.

It'll also make a difference if you are starting with an empty shell/blank slate or want to use pieces you already have.(A BIG $ difference, but also a big difference in time and commitment from all parties involved...especially if any structural elements are included--such as flooring, countertops, etc).

Good luck and enjoy the ride!

By the bye, did you go with the Paloma Lake home?

Before hiring anyone scour the home dec magazines and get a sense of your style and what you don't want. Make a folder with clippings. Ask to see their portfolio and compare with your likes and dislikes.

Choose someone based on if you feel you can work with them and if their portfolio resembles your style; if your style is Modern and sleek don't try to shoehorn a Country look designer into working with you.
