Please keep in mind that owning a house is much more than just mortgage and taxes in terms of cost. Houses require MAINTENANCE, and that means both expected and unexpected expenses, some of which can be significant....

-What if your HVAC unit needs to be replaced?
-Can you cover your insurance deductible if the house gets hit by a hailstorm and the roof needs to be replaced?
-What if a water heater/pipe bursts?
-What if some appliances need repair/replacement?
-Would you be able to handle the cost of any potential foundation/sewer/gasline repairs?

....think about it.

Or the roof is just old and needs to be replaced, or you discover you have termites. Even the removal of a large damaged tree can cost over $1.000.
