Aren't they opening a Costco in Cedar Park?

Yes, they're building it off 1431. It's supposed to be open late next year.

Cedar Park's Costco seems to be taking forever to be built. I've contemplated a membership, but I suspect any attempts to shop at the current North Austin store will be nightmarish.
Costco also needs a certain demographic for likely shoppers: They generally need a somewhat affluent (not "rich") shopper base with a decent disposable income. They also prefer shoppers with higher/advanced education (which in many cases results in higher income).

I didn't know Costco is building a warehouse in Cedar Park. Whereabouts are they building it?

Why would shopping at the North Austin warehouse be nightmarish for you? Distance to the warehouse?

I agree. A Wal-mart is more likely.

The new Costco in Cedar Park is being built at the corner of the 183A/1431 intersection. More details here: Cedar Park approves Costco development agreement - Community Impact Newspaper

All the Costcos in the Austin region are off the Mopac/183 corridor. It'd be nice if they put one somewhere on the 35 corridor. I'm assuming Round Rock would be a reasonable choice.

Distance isn't a factor. It's maybe a 10-15 min. drive away. However, the only times I'm likely to shop there are right after work around 5/6 and weekends. The herd that oldtoiletsmkgdflrpots described is pretty accurate for the weekend. It seems like every time I drive by on a Sat/Sun there's a long line of cars going in and out of the parking lot. And my friends are always mentioning their insanity for tackling Costco on a Sat. The CP Costco will likely reduce the crowds somewhat by offering those shoppers an alternate store (likely closer for many of them).

Thanks. I have noticed that this particular warehouse (more so than others I have visited) gets very crowded around lunch time and about an hour before closing time on weekends. Most shoppers seem to time their visit/purchase with lunch for the family at the food court.

The trick I've found to shopping at Costco on weekends is to get there a few minutes before it opens. You'll have your pick of parking spaces and if you know what you need, you can be in and out pretty quickly before the crowds show up.

If you think these Costco's are crowded. You should visit the original ones in the Seattle area. They have multiple parking lots. Costco is a way of life in Seattle.
