As crazy as it sounds, as a transplant, I wish that there was a moratorium on transplants now.

There are a LOT worse problems than those caused by growth!

I've been saying the same thing since 1959.

My friends who have been here 10 years or so - or even less - tell me they remember a different city, one without traffic congestion
Hogwash - there has been traffic congestion downtown since I moved here.

Yeah, when we came here in 1999, rent was crazy high. So people moving here in the last 10 years saying there was cheap rent? Anyway, we came here FROM Rhode Island back then and my god, Providence is a depressing city.

But most of the state is still beautiful (at least from what I saw on Aerial America).

This is not directed at the OP directly, just an observation based on all the different threads threads deal directly or indirectly with this topic.

I'm tired of all these "too many people are moving here" threads.

  1. It's a free country, people can move where they want.
  2. No one is going to leave if they like it here because someone complains that too many people move here.
  3. Complaining about change is like trying to hold back the tide with your hands - a waste of time. Come to terms with the facts and move on.
Use your energy and imagination to come up with solutions on how to make this a better place for everyone and stop whining about the fact that Austin is so popular. Unless you happen to be a member of the native American tribes that roamed these lands before 1839, your family has moved here in the past 174 years, most likely in the past 50 years or less - you really have no basis to complain.

I came here in 1996. Tried RR and ended up in Pflugerville. I loved that little town of 7K with a PO that had only 4 parking spots and the library that was a converted home with books displayed even in the bathroom

I truly lived out in the country while still being 20 minutes to work in Austin.

Time and growth changed it all though so I left. No hard feelings though. I just went looking for that same small town somewhere else. And I found it.

Tell us where did you move so we could follow ...!
Seriously, I'm happy that you found what makes you happy. After all, this is what life is about.
I live in a big town and dream of experiencing the feeling of living in a small, quiet town.
Hopefully I get to experience it before I die.
