We are moving from Dallas to Austin. We love Austin's mountains, lakes.

The town we are now living in Dallas is a small town ( coppell ), I can walk to libraray, great schools from daycare to high school, park and lake, kids' big playground, and gym , all of which are in one mile distance. Most of my kids activities are 5 minutes drive distance.

We are now looking for our future house , and would love to live all my life if I can find one like a town feeling place in Austin.

Any suggestion would be appreciated~

What are these mountains you speak of, and where can I find them?

Maybe Lakeway would work? Although I wouldn't consider it a small town feel, more of a suburb with views. Georgetown possibly, it's more of a true small town. Within Austin city limits Rollingwood and Westlake would offer close proximity to good schools and kids activities, but not a small town feel. A lot depends on your home price and commute if that's a factor. Overall, I don't think there is any place near Austin where you will get the conveniences you currently have combined with good schools, at least on the quaint, walkability scale near mountains and lakes.

Bizarroland

Coppell is a big by-the-number suburb of which there are clones just like it everywhere. It doesn't even have a faux town center like Southlake.

It has a walk score of 26. http://www.walkscore.com/TX/Coppell 100% auto dependent. In fact, Hutto would be a major step UP in walkability and Hutto is not walkable at all.

So, if you're looking for something like Coppell - a big suburb that is pretty much auto dependent for everything - take your pick - Cedar Park, Steiner Ranch, Hutto, etc.

But if you really want a true town center feeling - try central Austin or buy into the Mueller development which is at least designed to be a town center but not fully developed yet.

Try Georgetown if you're looking for a small town feeling. You won't be able to walk to all of those places (the library, schools, parks, AND Lake Georgetown, though there is a walking trail), but you can come close, and most of it will be within a five or ten minute drive. What's your price range?

Hutto is more walkable than you think. In fact, I can walk to everything I need from my neighborhood, or hop on my bike. The city is about to start work on another leg of the hike and bike trail, which will be great.

I was also thinking Lakeway. It sort of feels like it's own town in the hills (although there are others farther out). But, not really walkable -- more like just short drives everywhere.

Have you ever been to Steiner? Or are you just trolling?

Steiner literally ticks every single box the OP was looking for:

Walk to kids schools/day care? Yes.
Walk to gym? Yes.

Lake access? Yes.
Hills? Yes.
Parks? Yes.
All three within an easy walk? Yes.

Almost everything in the neighborhood walkable? Yes.

It's totally car dependent outside of the stuff the OP was asking about, but that's what some of you can't seem to grasp when people are looking for "walkable". The definition is different for everyone. This OP was very clear, and Steiner fits that bill. Is Steiner the neighborhood for everyone? Nope - I hated it wen I lived there. Would it work for the OP? Very possible.
