Where do affluent austinites in their twenties and thirties go for the summer? We usually take various trips during the summer but now that we have a kid I would like to find a second house somewhere. Colorado and florida both seem appealing, any other suggestions? I'm thinking a small resort style town where you can take it easy but still meet some interesting people and get work done...

Gulf Shores, Alabama and Seaside, Florida are where we and most of the families we know go to relax during the summer. If you're looking at the mountains, many we know also go to the Park City, Utah area and Boulder, Colorado.

How can you go anywhere with the typical 10 days PTO/yr?

For the typical Austin professional weekend staycation, try Fredericksburg or Marble Falls

There are a lot of people who don't work a "typical" 10 days PTO/year job. Many have a lot more flexibility in where and when they work.

Americans average 16 days /year PTO (vacation + holidays).

America's war on vacation: By the numbers - The Week

And as A-tex noted, that's average, so many will have much more. My guess is that Austin would trend on the higher end of the average as well (due to the education/government/tech job base).

Steamboat Springs, CO gets our mountain fix out of the way. Isla Mujeres (Cancun) gets our tropical fix out of the way. Both are easy and quick to fly to from Austin. When we just want a good long weekend we shoot for Big Bend or South Padre Island.

We used to spend a couple of weeks each August in the mountains near Santa Fe, hiking and horseback riding. Telluride, Colorado, is another nice option (we have friends who used to vacation there who now live there full time).

New Mexico is a typical place for a second home for Texans.

The OP wants to know about "affluent" people in their 20's and 30's. What does the OP consider affluent? How do they get to be "affluent" while in their 20's?

In the summer? I don't know much about New Mexico but doesn't it get even hotter there than here? It seems people would want to go way north for the summer but that is just an opinion.

Also, because I make lot's of assumptions...I would think "affluent" people would go all over the world but again...I'm giving opinions of my stereotypical idea of what a rich person does.
