Well, I guess fire season is upon us, I saw burn ban signs on Comanche Trail near the Oasis. Grass is brown and tall, hasn't been mowed. One cigarette butt, car breakdown, or lightning strike and it's off to the races.

The "high pressure ridge" is firmly entrenched. Up to 106 by next week. So how you transplants holding up? The whole month of August is like this And this has been a relatively "cool" year. Imagine this heat starting in May and ending in September like it does some years...

It's nothing for me. It's supposed to hit 113 in my hometown this week.

Well, anyone else, from the Northeast or Pacific Northwest want to comment on how you're dealing with the heat?

My sister lives in Southern Oregon. She just spent a week here visiting us. It was hotter back in Oregon than it was here while she was here.

Texas doesn't own an exclusive patent on hot summers!

Originally from Maryland, and I don't think its that bad. The humidity levels are much lower and that makes a huge difference for me.

Back home 70-85% humidity throughout the day with 90-95 degree heat was not uncommon. And it was quite disgusting. Also the high humidity levels and large bodies of water held heat overnight so it would still be in the mid 80s when you woke up, not in the 70s.

No month during the year matches August. This chart of average daily highs and lows shows that historically, August is our hottest month, by several degrees.

Actually, this time of year, it's not. Arizona has a monsoon season coming up from Baja. It's 113 with afternoon cumulus buildup and rise in humidity and it's miserable. I don't miss it.

This heat sucks...I've been saying it for over a decade. Nothing new. We go from monsoon to desert.

How do I deal with it this time around?

1. Pool. Use it often. 99 degrees heats the water to perfection.
2. Covered Patio with two high-airflow fans.

Dealing with maskeeters however is worse than dealing with heat.
