From this article:
Herman: We Austinites are boringly middle of the road politically | www.mystatesman.com

"Congratulations, citizens of the once-distinctive hamlet formerly known as the People’s Republic of Travis County. Austin apparently now is solidly and boringly politically middle-of-the-road."

The election spectrum 10L to 10C:

10L (<-Most Liberal)....... 1L...0...1C ...... (Most Conservative ->) 10C

Austin is 0.9C. The nearest Presidential candidate to that position on the political line is Donald Trump.

See this chart:

Now if we could just get some roads built and help the poor.

Steve

I've always said inner city Houston is more liberal democrat than Austin. Austin always struck me as libertarian in the inner core and conservative in the outskirts.

Good thing we have an election in 10 months to see if this is true.

The article seems unconvinced of these "facts".

It's solely based on political donations I wouldn't put stock into it.

This is not a study of voter data, it's a study of political donations. Not the same thing.

Austin has the good luck to not have any sketchy areas. I found the small city to be relatively safe and nice looking throughout its borders. It was hard for me to find a bad neighborhood. I'm sure they're there but I haven't seen them. Houston is just too big and spread out not to have bad areas.

Back to Austin, I never thought of the city as being that progressive as it claims. It does seem very much like a hippy, hipster, haven but it always struck me as libertarian-ish.

I'm a moderate in NYC.

I'm a liberal in Austin.

I'm a conservative in San Francisco.

I can see that. San Francisco or Berkeley can be seen as a vegan co-op owned by a bunch of gender non-conforming anarchists, while Austin is essentially a Whole Foods Market. It's trendy crunchy.

Thanks for the info I am looking to relocate but have not pick a place to do so. Having lived in Washington State for most of my life it time for a change and living in the same city for 20 years it gets old real fast.
