Been considering buying in Lost Creek for a while now, but was curious about the impact of annexation effective 12/15/15.

From the research I have done, the school district will remain with Eanes. Any threat that changes at some point or is it safe to bank on that?

Also prop tax rates are expected to rise from around 1.9% to around 2.15% annually.

Services for parks/greenbelts, police, fire now move under Austin jurisdiction. Water utility also goes to Austin jurisdiction.

It has only been 2 months but for Lost Creek residents, what is your take on the change so far? Any noticeable impact to services/utility bills? Anything else worth noting?

Thanks,
Joe

Home insurance will probably drop a small amount.

a friend mentioned something about needing to follow impervious cover limits after the annexation. So that is possibly different

Thanks for the replies. It's still pretty early I suppose, but seems like business as usual. I was just looking out for any showstoppers: water bill went up 200% using the same volume, called an ambulance and it took 45 minutes to arrive, got a notice that Forest Trail Elementary is converting to AISD, etc, etc.

Well, since you are already in the ETJ, a lot of city ordinances probably already applied to that area anyway (i.e maybe impervious cover, but not sure). In many cases, some utilities costs go down but taxes go up (as you noted, the 1.9 to 2.15). Some utilities may go up, but that is hard to know explicitly unless you live there and can compare apples to apples before/after.

ISDs are completely independent from city boundaries. I can't say ISD boundaries never change (I'm sure at least one has changed sometime in the history of Texas) but that would or wouldn't happen independent from being in city limits or not.
