Glad I own my own business and don't have to drive downtown for work... Anyone else following their orders?

Is he flying in and out of ABIA? When is he supposed to leave? That may be a bigger problem for me getting to the airport...

Thankfully I also work from home!

From the article:

".....The president is set to speak at 2:30 at the Long Center Friday afternoon. That means his motorcade will go through downtown early Friday afternoon. That's why in a city memo Tuesday, city manager Marc Ott said non-essential employees can leave Friday at noon...."

Am I missing something? How much are we paying Marc Ott per year for this deductive thinking process?

Or are they encouraging city employees to attend the rally?

Yeah, I think you're missing something.

OK Copernicus, what did I miss?

Why let city workers off work (at noon) if the prez is speaking at 2:30 & will be out of downtown by 3:30 - 4pm?

Pres speaking at 2:30 means all traffic is shut down for _at least_ 45 minutes before while he's traveling to there.

Then say he finishes at 3:30, then traffic is shut down for _at least_ 45 minutes after while he then goes to West Austin.

He finishes up there after a couple hours, and then traffic is shut down _again_ while he heads back to the airport.

I think it has something to do with Friday afternoon traffic, which starts on most Fridays at 11am. But what the hey, all of us "work" at home internet posters oughta take a day off, drive into town and enjoy a good old fashioned presidential appearance in our fair city. In fact, I may do just that, now that it's been brought to my attention.

Last time Prez was in town, I got stuck at Pok-e-Joes for a few hours. Decided to try their beer for the first time and just call it a day.....

So ALL (non-essential) city employees get off at noon because the Prez is traveling from Westlake (or west Austin) to ABIA (on Ben White?) in the late afternoon or early evening ?

This might sound perfectly normal to the usual suspects here on CD austin....but to some of us less enlightened working stiffs, it sounds like the city manager is behaving like he's wasting CofA salaries....which are paid for with other people's money.
