I am legally blind and cannot drive. My wife and I will be moving to the Austin area on May 1st. Round Rock has caught our eye, but we wonder firstly, if cap metro has stops so that I can attend UT, and secondly, is Round Rock a good place for her to find good paying employment.

I would appreciate any input as my transportation needs will dictate where we have to live.

Thanks!

Almost positive that they do not have any stops. I worked with a blind client last year, and just so you know you will need to be within one mile of a stop to have capital metro pick you up.

I do not have time right now because we are leaving the house, but I will post the northern bounds for you later this weekend. My client bought down south, so I know those limits -- but I am not as familiar with the northern side of Austin.

Also if you stay within the City of Austin limits and are buying a home, there is a special program that will provide financial assistance if you meet all of the criteria. (Or atleast this program existed last year.)

jenkirk, thanks so much. I would greatly appreciate any info you can give me. We would of course like to rent initially until we find just the right place.

Thanks for the help.

Best bet is to stay in Austin city limits for transportation.

Here is the link to the ADA map. They say on the website it is .75 miles. However I know that my client was told to stay within one mile, so you may want to call.

Capital Metro Weekday ADA Corridor (http://www.capmetro.org/gismaps/ada/ada_weekday.html - broken link)

As far as renting, if you are going to go with apartments... you should contact an apartment locator. They will be able to key this information into their search engines and give you a list to call from.

My husband is blind and he is attending the Texas school for the blind in Austin and I think he told me that CapMetro does not go far or if any outside of the city limits. I will be moving there in a couple of weeks to get an apartment for me and him and He told me to get it within the city so that he will still have access to the buses.

Also, I went with an apartment locator to find me an apartment. The lady that has been helping me does a great job. If you will be renting and want a locator, call Home Place Apartment Locators.
