Are Austin residents ok with these new policing policies?

I think it is great. There is no need for armed and tactically trained people to show up to 95% of the calls that 911 gets.

6 years ago there was a drunk driver down the main street my cul de sac was on. I followed the driver into a cul de sac and blocked the car while I called police. The lady hit me with her car to get out of the cul de sac and police were like "if no one is injured we arent coming".

3 years ago I had about 2K in tools stolen. The police would definitely not come and just created the report.

in the vast majority of cases the crime is already done and we dont need armed police showing up.

Moved just outside of Austin city limits last year. Since then the City of Austin taxpayers have experienced:

1. Protests,
2. defunded police,
3. CRT introduced to AISD
4. Forced virtual learning in AISD for all of 2020
5. A huge Tax increase
6. Covid lockdown
7. 2x increase of homeless people camping in public

I have impeccable timing, and my property value attests to that.

My former "urban" house has gone up 20%
My new "suburban" house has gone up 75%

That fact that APD doesn't do anything makes you and everyone in it's jurisdiction is a soft target.

You think the authority of a social worker is going keep people from running red lights and killing others?

You think the authority of a social worker is going to prevent someone from robbing your house?

God forbid there was forced virtual learning during the height of a pandemic. Oh the travesty.

It matters. The kids in AISD suffered for it. My kids had the option to go to class in person fall of 2020, and you bet they did, and they are better off for it. They didn't turn into 8-hour-a-day-computer-zombies that don't know how to be around other people.

When citizens begin shooting back I think the tone will change.

So are you okay with it getting THAT bad? What if it gets that bad and you can't do anything about it, like Portland or SF?

Where the extents of "law" are only set by the limits of human decency.

No; I’m not okay with it getting THAT bad.

But I know Texans. They won’t accept lawlessness lightly.
