Though the term 'direct' is used interchangeably with 'non-stop', the two are different. In a direct flight, you do not change planes and you have only one flight number. Unlike the non-stop flight, the plane makes a stop en route to the final destination for refueling and picking up and dropping off passengers.
An example of a direct but not nonstop flight is Singapore Airlines Houston to Singapore. It’s direct but with a stop in Manchester

I flew JSX from Austin to Dallas (Love) this weekend and I it was amazing. Such a great experience and I have flown them before. The cost was the same as Southwest.

What was the cost in dollars? And was it that price because you had a big group of people or were you just booking for yourself?

Never mind. I just looked it up. Seems like the only place they fly to from Austin is Dallas, Crested Butte Colorado, and Taos New Mexico, so not really helpful in the context of this conversation.

Going to Europe, I've done well with Air Canada, with a stopover in Toronto. Not familiar with AC going west.

I've only used 3 airlines (Spirit, Southwest and American). I'd say Southwest then again the time I flew with them was before the great holiday fiasco.

I don't have any firm favorites at ABIA. I am more concerned with general airport meltdowns that we occasionally see. I asked a frequent flyer and their advice was not to fly out on the busiest days, usually Mondays and Fridays, and of course the last day or day after a major Austin event.

Of course I do plan to cancel my SW credit card before the first year with no fees is up.

Keep "priority" or above on any airline, and your customer service resources are vastly improved. (Dedicated phone lines and representative)

This. Having status and if possible access to a club helps a lot.
