I'm looking for one of those young, progressive churches with multi-media-laced sermons, casually dressed parishioners, a full band rather than a choir, numerous activities and volunteer opportunities, large congregation with 2 or more service times on Sunday. Christian, but any denomination, any part of town.

South Austin: Calvary South Austin on Congress near Stassney. Progressive? Ya. Emphasis on verse-by-verse study of the bible, not dressing in your Sunday best.

Creative, too. Recently a team from church submitted an entry in Austin's 48-Hr. film festival and we made it to top 10!!! I'm missing the top 10 screening tonight. See "
Silent But Deadly" on Youtube (be forewarned: sophomoric humor).

The people there are very warm and welcoming. It's a small church so it's kinda like Cheers. But without the stools. And the booze*. And Norm.

*There's coffee and they let you bring your own.

There are loads of these churches in Austin. Two that come to mind are: Austin Stone Community Church (located on the Austin High School campus....the worship is amazing) and Gateway Church (have not been, but my 17 year old brother goes there and it fits your description to a T)
Good luck with your search

Calvary South Austin is a cult. They will all pay for what they done. And dearly.

Austin Stone Church is the first that comes to my mind. This is the church were Chris Tomlin led Music Worship when he started becoming very well known.

I am a Catholic and we don't do that sort of thing, but from what my Protestant friends tell me Austin Stone sounds like that kind of church. I think they meet at the Austin High School on Cesar Chavez.
