HELLO TEXAS!!!,

My family and I want to relocate to some place where there are jobs, good schools, parks, a college and above all friendly, welcoming people. We want friends, we want to Barbecue with you on the weekends, we want to join a church and we want to be able to work and do more than survive. Who doesn't right?

So, after much research, I opted for near Austin Texas, perhaps Round Rock. My Husband and I are 39 and 40 years old with three children the oldest is 15 and the youngest is 3. We are sadly leaving family behind to make a fresh start and we are excited about the change. However, we need your help in letting us know the best area for our family and maybe some reassurance that moving 2 days away from any support is a good idea.

We have lived in Florida, Georgia and now North Carolina. Florida was nice, I like the city and I had lived there since I was 14 (I hail from Cleveland OH.), but too expensive, had too many pedophiles and the economy was plunging. Both the Georgia and North Carolina small towns made us feel like outlanders. We never were accepted into the Good Ole Boys Club, despite our efforts to fit in. We have no "way" of doing things, we are not rude and I personally like to voice my opinion from time to time without being hated.

Your response is so very important to us, i look forward to hearing from anyone who can tell us about Austin and surrounding areas, perhaps send some pics of your area and any suggestions to make this move a little less stressful. God speed and God bless...

Lisa

Well, first, welcome to Texas and Austin!

What do you like to do most? That would help in pointing you in a direction. What questions do you have? What kind of work are you likely to be doing, and do you know what part of the area you'd be working in? How do you feel about commutes? What's your price point? Would you be more likely to be renting or buying first?

Welcome, Lisa The neighborhood you've described reminds me of Allandale (in north-central Austin). We lived there for 25 years. It's a tight-knit group with many living in the neighborhood as long as we did, or longer. It goes in cycles and I would say that now, quite a few are in your age group and family situation with children. Gullett is a fine school, Lamar is a middle school (enough said ) and we had/are having good experiences at McCallum. You'd have to see if McCallum fits your family's style and interests. My kids have liked it because they say it's not cliquish. Good luck in your search.

Georgetown, Round Rock, Austin (different neighborhoods) and San Marcos all have good schools and are near colleges, parks, and friendly people.

We moved a year and a half ago from Salt LAke looking to find a place to call home. We have loved it here in Austin and hope to stay for good. We live in Cedar PArk. There are tons of families and the schools are good (not thrilled with the middle school, though). People are super friendly and we're happy here!
