My husband and I are moving to Austin in August to begin a PhD program at UT. We are planning to buy within 6-8 months of our move but will need to rent until we make a decision on where to purchase a home. Does anyone have feedback on rental properties/complexes that are open to 6 month leases at a fair price? So far, we've only found 12 month lease options. Any help would be appreciated.

A lot of apartments here in Austin are either 9 or 12 month leases.

Canyon Springs Apartments on 360 has no difference between monthly rent for 6 or 12 month leases. But they aren't exactly close to campus and they aren't cheap.

Try Craig's list.....only place you'll find 6-monthers.....some complexes will do it, but they add a 200-300 dollar surcharge to the rent, most won't, because they have so many people moving in willing to sign year leases that they don't want to be bothered with the change....on Craig's, you will find people leaving time on their lease, looking to saddle someone elese with the remainder, rather than having to eat the same.....be flexible, as many are just looking for someone to fill out 2-4 month remainders...you might have to bounce around a bit, but it'll work...

i29gtaylor - we're looking to spend between 600-800/month and need no more than a one bedroom place. Obviously, RR is not our first choice, but we might consider if it happens to be a good deal and fits our time frame. Let me know if this is still of interest to you...
