Default They could be for recharge of aquifers

RFJ mentioned several in Hays County and there is a large aquifer West of San Antonio, TX and Hays County is in Edwards Aquifer's recharge zone.

I think these are areas that catch rain and allow it to filter in to the ground slowly.
