Have you considered Cedar Park? It is a little bit more expensive than Round Rock, but it is smaller(around 45k pop), but growing. I've never lived in Round Rock, but do go over there from time to time, while nice, I just hate that I-35 runs right through the middle and seems to be centered around it. As you have heard, I-35 is a nightmare and I try to avoid it at all costs. Cedar Park recently built a brand new rec. center in the middle of town which is really nice. You can get a large, nice home for 240-280k easily. Since it is in Williamson Co. (so is Round Rock) the taxes are not as high as Travis Co. Actually there are some parts of Cedar Park that are in Travis, but most of it is in Williamson. Cedar Park also has easy access to the lake which is a lot of fun, and it is pretty easy to get into Austin via 183/183-A toll. I've lived in the Cedar Park area for about 4 1/2 years and am really happy here.

We're moving to Austin from the Springs this weekend! We looked all over the Austin area form Round Rock down to Buda. You can definitely get more for your money the further out you go. We also wanted to minimize my husband's commute. We found a place within Austin city limits that's in the Lake Travis School district. We found a 1/3 of an acre lot with trees!
