Thank you for saving the day, Captain Obvious.
its quite obvious i've upset you, or else you wouldn't feel the need to resort to insults when i'm just engaging in civil conversation. if you're not grown up enough to handle a difference of opinions, perhaps you should not be on these forums

Copperas Cove doesn't have an identity... hahaha! If you want an identity look at one of the neighborhoods in Dallas like Deep Ellum. Practically the entire economy of Copperas Cove revolves around Fort Hood. Shut down Fort Hood and there are massive business closings in Cove.
never argued that, but since there is no likelihood of that taking place, what does that have to do with the op living there now?

EVERY SINGLE TOWN in Texas was established long before and has its own festivals of some sort. This is not unique to Copperas Cove.
never said it was

Furthermore, this has nothing to do with the fact that if Fort Hood shut down, most of Cove would, too.

Cove is just a military town... nothing more, nothing less. Definitely not somewhere I'd recommend someone moving all the way to Nevada to.

And ironically I think Harker Heights is a nicer town than Cove.
copperas cove is heavily dependant on fort hood, but your assessment that it does not have it's own identity separate from the base is completely false. did you ever even leave your house when you lived there?

Do you mind if I ask why the move from Nevada, and what led you to consider Copperas Cove? The latter might provide a starting point for helpful feedback.

Default moving from nv

Hey thanks everyone for all of the very interesting feedback! Actually I'm female and am thinking of the move as a job has come up related to working with military families and the job is off base of Ft Hood. Nevada is quite rural and I live 80 miles from Vegas in a very small town, quiet and no crime to speak of. Thinking perhaps a visit to check it out for myself is in order.

Having lived most of my life in Copperas Cove I can honestly say this town is lacking in everything, mainly decent jobs. If you need a place to sleep and eat then this is the town for you. The 2nd largest employer in Cove is GC Services, their reputation speaks for itself. The rents are over priced because all Cove knows how to do is suck off of the military. The previous posts were absolutely correct, without Ft Hood, Cove would cease to exist. In the 70's and 80's we had more business then what is today in 2010. Cove is a place where certain individuals have been sure to keep the money in their pockets, hence no decent places to shop and limited places to eat. We USED to have a steak house, A&W Root Beer, Whataburger, Mr. Ghatties, Winn Dixie, WC Franks and so much more. Now Cove brags about the business cove has what a joke. It is a divorce town, no jobs, high rents and dead end life. The military are lucky, eventually they will get out of here!

Forgot to add that the property taxs are higher then average for the rest of Texas, population 30 something thousand and 57 registered sex offenders. Crime is high, so be sure you have renters insurance, police like to target the military on paydays 1 st & 15th of every month. But on the bright side it is not as bad as Killeen.

Realizing that this thread is almost 3 years old, I don't expect any reply to this post. Just had to put my .02 in. It's been years since I last lived in Cove. My memories are of a nice little Texas town that was a good place to raise a family and to grow up in. I lived there in the early 60's and again in the early 70's. We lived for a while in Killeen in the mid 60's as well. Killeen is definitely a place I wouldn't consider moving to. The last time I was in Cove was in the early 80's. I'm now close to retirement and I'm considering moving back to Texas. Cove would certainly be a town I would consider. I'm sure it's changed a lot in all these years, still, it's worth a look for me. I have a lot of good memories of the town.

Not really. It is still a military town, lives and breathes by the virtue of the US Army.
