I haven't had a real chance to go through it all... Apart from the idea that $10.10 in compensation, with a $9.90 tax increase... don't spend the 20c too quickly!
Also the tax change of increasing the tax-free threshold by a large amount.
I do agree with stopping the brown coal energy plants. It has annoyed me for some time that we burn brown coal here and export black coal
What a schlemozzle. A massive money churn with all sorts of compensation, subsidies and offsets. And a massive new bureaucracy - oh yay, must be those "green jobs" they keep talking about.
And where are the alternatives to our coal power? Can't run a country on solar and wind and nuclear is not even a talking point. Lots of vague, airy-fairy ideas of some mythical clean energy that these billions are supposed to produce. Like that clean-energy fund won't be rorted into a spectacular waste, given the sort of imbeciles in this government!
Coal burned here is bad but ten times our coal burned in China is okay? Car emissions okay but trucks no? And the way I read it, public transport costs will rise but you'll get compo to drive your car. WTF?
By how much will the world's temperature drop or rise? And by when? Especially considering we ARE going it alone, despite the spin. There is no equivalent nation-wide scheme of this size and cost anywhere. So little Oz is going to change the world's climate with this money churn?
I'm all for cutting pollution, overfishing, deforestation, waste of our resources but this is not about that at all. The compo is blatant vote-buying but she could multiply it by 100 and I wouldn't be convinced this is anything but BS.
Yes I always find it complety stupid that we burn all our dirty coal hear, and export the more enviromentally friendly stuff to china.
On top of than we also make absolutley no use of the worlds most commonly used "Clean" Fossil fuel, which we also have the worlds largest known supply of! Dare i say it, we should be using URANIUM!
We could easily halve our greenhouse gass emissions by knocking down Coal fired power stations and bulding Neuclear Reactors in their place. Thats how most of "green" europe does it.
Our family are not one of "Gillards Battlers" and we will certainly be out of pocket and while im happy to pay, the massive compensation to low income earners is totally ridiculious. If you include the low income earners rebate an aussie will now be able to earn around $28,000 and pay absolutly no tax at all under these changes. Not bad for a so called "High Taxing Country".
My wife went out and bought a couple of Candles yesterday, and seriously wants us to use them.

I have wondered, is this just to feel good about ourselves? the argument that because no one else is doing this, doesn't mean we can't "lead" is a bit... unconvincing.

There was a report recently on traffic flow to Melbourne airport. The govt decided the Tullamarine freeway needs to be expanded. Every comment on the article pretty much repeated "build a train!"
If the govt will not invest in infrastructure to alleviate these issues, I do find it a hard pill to swallow that the electorate then pays for it.
Daniel... Same boat. No govt rebate really. I do pay for green energy with electricity provider. I will now consider dropping this. I'm not paying twice for it!
As far as leading the world, that always makes me cringe. So often I hear people like Gillard and Rudd crowing about us showing the way, big-noting Oz but in reality we're barely a blip on the world's radar. Overseas, the only time Oz gets a mention anywhere is when we experience bushfires or other natural disasters.
Besides, it seems more countries who actually did jump into this climate change thing earlier are actually backing away from it and/or not going ahead with promised increases in the various schemes they had initially brought in. And isn't Kyoto dead in the water?
Gillard's dreaming if she thinks countries are going to jump on this bandwagon with her. Especially given the precariousness of the world's financial situation right now.
We've all changed to those energy saving light bulbs {to save the environment}. We've chucked a heap of glassware up on our roof {to save the environment}. They've planted wind farms all over the countryside like mushrooms {to save the environment}. And has any of these made a difference to the consumers pockets - NO, NIL, ZAP, ZERO! And then they hit us with a 'carbon tax' {to save the environment}. And if that's not enough, electricity is going up AGAIN {plus a mirriad other taxes and levies}, and by 17% in August - WHAT THE...??? Who is gaining out of all this? Sure as hell ain't me that's for sure.
It's a massive con, like everything else nowadays.
Keep the people poor and when the next election comes, toss 'em a few crumbs and they've got your vote. Isn't that what Hitler did? Got everyone working and putting food in their bellies...and then got even more powerful.

There was an article stating its actually the Lib's faults for putting the greens ahead of labour on preferred party.
I believe the greens put up a big sign at Fed Sq in Melbourne stating they'd "won" or something similar.

Any greenhouse owner knows if you want your plants to grow, increase the CO2. Plants eat CO2 and the more of it, the more they eat and the more they grow.
This jive of making CO2 some bad gas is so out of whack with reality.
Nature always balances itself out. Might not happen overnight but it does.
All it will take is one big volcano to go off to wipe out any carbon neutral gains people think they made.
