Some oddball choices on that list...Zurich? Really? Boring as bat ***** and so expensive. Riga *shrug* it's OK, nothing special. Auckland, if I was spending time in NZ, it wouldn't be in Auckland. Shanghai, could be any other big international city. Not particularly interesting.
I guess for these guys they can't put out a list with the same names on it every year or no one would pay attention.
Adelaide is mostly a nice place - very suburban, very quaint, kind of like a sleepy town but with a big city feel. However, some of the major residential areas are hideous and quite crime ridden, e.g. Marion, Mitchell Park, Salisbury, Elizabeth, Aberfoyle Park, Hackham, Port Adelaide etc. These places make it feel like a bit of a back water and really need to be cleaned up, but other than that, there are some nice heritage buildings remaining from when Adelaide was one of Australia's wealthiest and most populous cities and the Adelaide Hills are very nice.

A tourist isn't going to go to Hackham, same as you've never been to the Paris suburbs.
Not sure if it resulted in any tourist boost for my local region, but couldn't have hurt.
Congrats to Adelaide, haven't been there for over 25 years and must go back.
Wait long enough and a city close to you will get into the list. Every year a new collection of names are chosen, so inevitable it'll come up unless seriously wanting..
