There are a lot of people here who live without aircon, on purpose. I don't know why. It's come down in price, but it's not the cost. There's a funny, stubborn character about many Australians - "oh, we don't need air conditioning! Never had it when we were growing up!" One of my best friend's husband is like that. She'd love aircon, but nope, he's got no intention of putting it in. They're comfortably well off. I just don't see the point. It's very uncomfortable. Especially in an uninsulated house. Even ceiling insulation isn't enough.

Yeah, I grew up without it, but one summer when I returned here convinced me it was not the way to "live". We lived without a lot of things 40, 50, 100 years ago.
Ha, I'm resurrecting old threads, but its the same here, in Colorado, except with the cold. There's always "those" people who have their house temps down real low in the winter and walk around in a sleeping bag and jacket to keep warm.

Out of the eastern seaboard capitals, I'd say:

Sydney
Melbourne
Brisbane

but then I prefer colder weather (or at least a proper winter). Haven't been to the other capital cities so I can't judge.
