I had a situation at the gas station today. A guy asked me for a battery boost, but I didn't want to mess it and replied, "Sorry, I'm in a hurry." He said OK, and walked back to the car where his friend was standing. I thought that was that, but when I was about to leave, his friend yelled, "Thanks a lot, A..hole!" I told him to walk up to me if he wants to say that (I cussed him out too of course). He didn't come over, but there was a lady and her kid at one of the pumps, so I ended up feeling bad about cussing. Felt angry about the whole thing, really.

They were asking other people for a boost, but there were no takers. The station's garage was open, so they could have gotten a boost there. In fact, the guy filling up next to me said he told them to do that.

Anyhow, do you guys always give battery boosts to strangers asking for one?

It depends on the situation ... if it's in a place where I can offer to help, I'd do so. Usually I can't, though, as my battery is a side terminal and there's not enough space to put the clamps on it.

I carry a 3300 peak amp jump box in my rig which will jump start a Greyhound bus. I make them carry it over and hook it up though since it weighs about 50 lbs. I thought that the Caterpiller 3116 in my Volvo flatbed would be a little hard to start in the winter, but it fires up on the first spin. So, I just get to be a good samaritan. I've jumped a lot of vehicles.

I will offer to help. It's hard to screw up unless you cross + and -, but even then, you will see arcing when the positive clamp comes near the negative terminal so you know to back off. In my experience the only thing that happens is you fail to jump start the other car because their battery is too dead (which is usually the case in my experience)

I'll usually help anyone out, at least when it comes to something simple as a jump start. Now if it was late in the evening and the people looked shady, probably not.

The paragraph I've put in blue tells me that those asking for a jump may have been giving off bad vibes, or just looked a bit ...... reckless. I'm sure the garage would've helped them out. I think you were wise in this situation.

I agree with this. The 2 guys tipped it off as something aint right. A person by themselves and stranded on the road is something else. Two guys AT a gas station.. no way..
