It was my dad's fishing car, which became my hand-me-down when I was old enough. A '48 Chev Fleetline like this was the first car I actually bought myself. Not for $16,000.

You should start saving up again. I think it's time you got another car. JUST KIDDING! I'm sure you have another car, and have owned many others but kept the Maverick for sentimental reasons because it was your first car. I wish I had done that. I got my parents old poop brown 1978 Ford Pinto in 1989. It was one of the oldest and cheapest cars in my high school parking lot, except for a white '77 Pinto owned by one of the teachers! Back then, I couldn't wait to get rid of the Pinto and was thrilled when the differential or transmission broke and we sold it. Then I got to cruise around in a 1987 Mercury Topaz.
But the first car I bought with my own money was a black 1985 Hyundai Pony Plus 1600 GLS 5-speed. It was not sold in the US, but was in Canada. For those who don't know, it's a 4 door hatchback rear wheel drive based on 1960s technology. Wasn't much more prestigious than a Pinto, but it was newer and had fancy gold hubcaps (but they fell off), gold and red stripes (but they faded and cracked), rear window louvers (but the sun melted them downwards so much that the rear wiper wouldn't clear it anymore), a sunroof (but the handle broke so you could seriously injure yourself trying to open it), Bosch fog lights from the factory (but they didn't work) and an AM/FM/Cassette stereo with 4 speakers - quite impressive for the era and type of car.
Sorry, no pics of any of those cars... wish I did.
It does nto show but it is a real low rider. We used to yell "Spaaaarks" every time we went over a dip or bump at night and then look out the back window for the light show.
My 85 Camaro, these pics were back in the year 2000. It was a hand me down my older brother had at college, I cleaned it up, replainted it.
It wasn't fast but I loved it, actually back in the days of AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) when I was in highschool, I made this screename of MustangEater. Mainly because a buddy of mine with a built 5.0, hated it because alot of people thought my car was faster then his. LOL.
Either way, had rusted wheels, couldn't afford new fancy wheels so I went black before black became REAL trendy.
Day I sold it(blown engine, and I was going off to college 2 weeks later) Oddly enough I teared up on it. It wasn't anything special, but I loved the car.
71 2dr maverick bought 11/18/83 in Iowa Park Tx for $625. Still have it. White with Blue Cloth/Vinyl interior. 170/3-speed column shift. AM radio with a Radio Shack FM converter with a TV speaker in the package tray. The previous owner had removed the black vinyl roof and put a high quality primer job on the roof. To this day, I can still drive to the house I bought it at. I was so proud of it. Paid for it myself with no parental help. I know now after I got my Marti Report on it, the only options it had when new was Black Vinyl Roof, WW tires, and tinted glass. It was not even ordered with a AM radio when new. Some past owner (or the dealership) must have put one in at a later date. There was no dash speaker. It sold on 08/05/71 at Kermit Ford in Kermit TX which is still in buissness at the same address they were at in 71. Their website says they have been a Ford dealer since 47! It was built 11/03/70. It was one of 14,474 2dr Mavericks built with the 170/3-speed combo that year. One of 10,578 with Black Vinyl Roof, and 11,717 painted White.
I had a maverick for a while. It was mustard yellow and dented from top to bottom. I used it to haul my dog (very big doberman). He would jump in and out of the windows. I used to leave the keys in it hoping someone would take it but no one ever did. It was butt ugly with all those dents.
