Does it amuse anyone else here that the $250 junkers you drove as high school/college students because that is all you could get are now the $30,000 "classics"?
I've thought the same thing, even when in avg condition. Up in Wi (back in the late 70's to early 80's) we always parked our nice rides (muscle/classic cars) for the winter, and while at the time some of our winter cars were cheap beaters I wouldnt mind one or two of them now for fun. One was a 64' Galaxie ex cop car (cant recall if it had the 352 or 390), and a 67 Riviera that would just run the rubber right off the tires with it's 430. Both at the time were a couple hundred bucks each, and by spring found their way to the scrapyard.
I'm sure i'm not the only one with "auto regrets" as we get older lol

Friends had Skylarks, Cutlass convertable, Plymouth Grand sport fury, Mustang Mach 1, - all kinds of cars people would die for today, but they were all the cheapest old buckets you could find back then.

I'd say in general none of our crew was rich, heck we were all just gearheads in a small farm town and all our $$ went into 2 things. Beer and cars. As none of us enjoyed driving in snow a modded v8 with big arse rear wheels, ladder or traction bars, and in some cases actually nice or custom paint (our group included a 69 roadrunner, 55 chevy, 72 chevelle, my 70 1/2 Camaro, a 71 mach 1 and a 72 challenger among others) so parking them only made sense and we'd all pick up up those $100-200 winter beaters.
While I didnt have a chance at a hemi cuda like you did, my purchase regret (for not doing it) was trading a small block 66 Chevelle I had for a 67 factory 427 Impala (my car and 600 bucks would have swung the deal). Guess at the time $600 was way too much for my min wage earning butt, and is a car I really wish I would have had in my garage as I grew older.
Yeah, those wagons like I have, now nicknamed "clamshell" wagons (1971-76 GM full-size wagons) due to the tailgate design were like $200-500 cars in the 1980s-mid 1990s. Now a rust bucket will bring $3000+ just to a person wanting to crash in a demo-derby.
A nice one can easily fetch $10K-$20K+!
Also the Ford Country Squire wagons of the 70s... these were super cheap cars in the 80s-90s... again a nice one can easily bring $10K+! I could have purchased one from a local Ford dealership in the early 2000s for $900... same cars now going for $8000+ on ebay.

This is my uncles car... 1966 Oldsmobile F85 Deluxe wagon... (still owns this car)
It wasn't a classic then, but would be now... my grandmothers 1973 Cadillac Eldorado. This pic was taken in 1981. She owned this car from about 1978-1984. Someone put bolts down the carburetor and ruined it... the car was crushed in 1984.

lol, yeah and to think I had about 4 family members "squabbling" over the car (over who should get the car) when my grandpa passed away.
There was a will, but one family member thought it should have been theirs since it was offered before and didn't take it at the time. Grandpa left it to three of his kids (all of his estate). My mom and her sister sold their share of the Gremlin to my uncle. lol. There were actually a lot of people wanting this car, grandpa had it sold for $4000 once, then decided to keep it. I guess they are actually desirable cars by AMC fans, plus this was an unusually high optioned car... it had A/C, FM radio... pretty much everything that was available on those. lol.
I drove it a few times, but not by choice.
Now the '55 Cadillac I would have loved to have owned, but my grandpa had already give it to one of his sons.

I guess they are actually desirable cars by AMC fans, plus this was an unusually high optioned car... it had A/C, FM radio... pretty much everything that was available on those. lol.
