Computer terminal left a 6" rip in the rear leather seat. Old car but still a driver. Grey leather could just duct tap it but.. any other inexpensive fixes?

We used to take cars down to Tijuana and get them re-upholstered with decent leather for next to nothing. Usually we supplied the material because I heard they will use fake leather or crummy leather. I have also heard sometimes they just steal your car. - But it sure was inexpensive.

Duct tape will get nasty after a while. An upholstery job will cost you. One section repair will cost you if its possible.

I would say your best bet is to cover it with a seat cover, or look into a junkyard for a replacement seat.

Look for a part-out on craigslist or a different forum pertaining to whatever car you drive, and check out a junkyard.

These are my methods for finding what I need at a decent price.

what kind of car? where you located I might be able to help.

Try contacting a local auto upholstery shop. They usually know vinyl repair guys who visit shops on a regular basis. They might be able to fix the seat so it looks ok and doesn't get worse.

The only way to fix correctly is replace the seat cover or have an auto upholstery shop remove the cover and replace the section that is damaged.

If you call about doing a repair, ask them about how much it would cause to have the insert replaced. It might not be too terribly expensive. Maybe $250 or so, depending on the type of car and how complex the seat structure/cover is.

Myself I would try to sew it up. If you could get to the back side of the leather it could be sewn to show no stitches from the front side.

Had a small tear in my leather seat back. My upholstery guy said the truck was too old to pay him to replace it. He suggested super glue and pinch it together. He showed me how to loosen the edges of the cushion to gain some slack to pinch it for a few seconds. That was two years ago and it's still together. It was on the back and only about two inches long, might be harder to fix the seat bottom.

Duct tape. NO! It'll curl and you'll get the sticky all over your pants (from experience). I would get a set of seat covers.

The lower portion of a back seat usually comes out very easy.

I would check junkyards,

Just curious, how can you sew from the backside but still show no stitching on the front?

Take the seat apart, remove the cover and sow. The seam will be there but the stiching will be under the cover. But if your going to go through the trouble of removing the cover, its better to just replace it
