Hi everyone. I bought a Chevy Uplander van from a elderly family member recently and it has the leather "captains" chairs. The leather is in new condition and I would like to keep it that way. I bought some ArmorAll Leather Care to keep the seats moisturized, but it doesn't seem to last very long and it kinda stinks. What do you folks use on your seats to keep them looking good?

I use Lexol leather cleaner mixed half and half with water. It works well for leather in the house as well as the car. Have used it for years after advised to go that direction by a custom upholstery shop. They advised against chemical finish products.

I asked the same question on a Cadillac mailing list I belong to.
The product Gliptone is highly recommended. So was Leatherique.
I bought Gliptone (from autobarn.com) and received it today but haven't used it yet.

They say to avoid Amor-All and Son-Of-A-Gun because those products contain silicone which actually dries out the leather.

Thanks. I'll try PepBoy's and O'Reilly's first, if I can't find it there I'll have to order it.

Another vote for Lexol. It's what all the detailers I know use.

I bought the Lexol yesterday and used it. It's so much easier to use compared to that gel stuff, and works better too.

Wow. I use the Armor All leather conditioner and the seats in my car look like they did when they rolled off the showroom floor!! Don't want to hurt it in the long run so I guess I'll be switching too!! Great thread!

ETA: What's with Zymol?? That stuff is like 6 times the price of the other stuff!

Lexol or Hide Food are good products.

First you need to determine if your leather is coated. A Drop water will bead if its coated. If it soaks in, its not. Coated/treated leather will block the conditioner from soaking into the leather. Some products are not made for coated leather.

I generally use warm water and a rag on a regular basis rather than cleaners.

Lexol or leatherique are good cleaner and conditioners, but it is best to maintain the seats by gently wiping them down with warm water and use the cleaners occassionally.
