So given the thread that was just started about what's the fastest you've ever gone, what's the greatest speed differential you have been pulled over for and what did the cop ticket you at if you got a ticket.
For this one, you don't necesarily need to have been going over 100. a 70 in a 25, is a greater speed differential than 110 in a 70.
For me though, I was doing 125 in a 65. Cop gave me a ticket for only going 90. I think I wouldn't have been able to drive for a few years if he gave me the full 125 ticket. I was only 16 at the time and had my license for 6 months.
78.5Mph avg speed in a 50 mph zone in Norway, was ticketed for avg speed, I went over 85mph a couple of times, so lucky he only had avg speed measure. Ticket was roughly $1200
I also did 45mph in a 30mph once, with netted me a $900 ticket, also Norway.
No tickets in the US yet (I've slowed down some, too many cops here, no point in trying), but probably got close in the STi mentioned in the other thread.
120 in a 55 for me, mandatory "appear in court" (thankfully in VA it's the LEOs decision to let you go or haul you in for anything 20mph over the limit, and he let me go).
The judge was having to deal with a bunch of stinky, disrespectful druggies and the like that day so when I was called up and stood before him properly washed and in shirt and tie, coupled with my spotless DMV record and the LEOs statement that I was exceedingly cooperative at the stop, he let me walk out with a no-point "failed to obey traffic signal" fine of $50. That was the last time I was in court (about 1996~7), and I haven't even been pulled over since 2002~2003. I guess there are benefits to getting old. :/
I was doing 85 in a 35 zone (freeway access road) and got pulled over.
The cop was 'nice' and wrote it for 75 in a 55 (on the actual freeway - which I was not).
Judge tossed it. He asked the simple question 'How fast were you really going?'. I answered it honestly. He asked where, and again I answered honestly. He was not impressed at my speeding, but was at my honest answers. I had been before him a few years earlier on a drivers license issue and he remembered me.
So, I don't speed any more. While that situation turned out okay, the risks are too great.
Since I had the papers that I was on my way back from the dealership having a new wheel bearing installed, I was able to tell him I was testing out the high speed issue they just fixed. He said that he cant let me go on a warning but he will write it below the GA superspeeder law to avoid that hefty fine.
He lessened it by lettering me drive home and not taking me in and towing the car.
His statement to me was,
Keep it under 200mph and go directly home.
The judge didn't even give me a work permit, instead "she" asked if i owned a bicycle?
$200 fine and a 90day suspension, careless-driving....
This was back in 1980 . age 18
I was out running the cop as he tried to chase me down but you can't out run the Motorola.
Down the road the highway patrol set up a road block, guns drawn and everything. I stopped short which made them nervous and waited for the county squad to show up. I didn't want to go with the troupers.

85 in a 55 zone on a downhill on a highway with 2 lanes in each direction. The speed limit used to be 65. I was trying to around big line of tractor trailers. It was 9 years, on my first solo drive home from college, a 4 hour trip, and I got the ticket only 15 minutes away from home.
the worst i got caught for is 53 in a 35 zone. went to traffic school to purge the ticket.
