1973 Mercury Comet: Nellie (as in "Whoa, Nellie!" My dad kept turning the idle down on it to slow me down)
1983 Mercury Lynx: Maggie, after Margaret Thatcher
1987 VW Golf: Loretta, a very unsuitable name for a German car, I gotta admit.
Well, my story is rather simple. All my cars (about 10 so far ) have had the same name ==> Besty.
It's sort of a "family" name. My dad named all his cars Betsy and since his passing I've named all my cars the same. My kids think I'm strange. My daughter asks why it's always a girl's name. I'll have to let her know about some of the guy's names on here.

LOL...my mom does the same thing!
Me:
First car: 1980 Mazda 626 was named Heap of Junk, nicknamed Heapie. It really was too!
Second car: 1994 Ford Escort (nice green color) was named Froggy.
Third car: 2001 VW Beetle; name was Bugsy the Beetle.
Fourth car: 2006 VW Jetta; name is Jules the Jetta.
My first car, a black 2008 Honda Accord EX-L: Amanda
My second and current car, a white 2011 Honda Accord EX-L V6: Emily (I don't like the letter L, but Emily is a very pretty name)
98 Toyota Corolla: Alfred (because he was old man gray on the inside)
99 Ford Escort: Eloise (because she was a cranky, broken old lady that had to be sweet talked into doing anything)
06 Subaru Impreza (RIP): Happy (reference: Sons of Anarchy)
02 Lincoln LS V8: Linc/Lincoln (obvious reasons)
...Incidentally, most of my car has had male names, a bit unusual, never figured out why.
We name some cars, but not always consistently. My daughters Lincoln is Abe to her but Buc to me (Big ugly car). Our vans have always been "Big ________ (whatever color they are mostly, big blue big red, big green machine). However out current van is silver and big silver does not work. So it got relegated to "the Van" The kids named my Camaro Cammy or Cameron or something I cannot remember, and the Jensen Jenny. When they were little, the Jensen was always called "Daddy's broken car" even when it was running. My son calls his Ion the POS and his thunderbird is named "Thunderchicken" much to his chagrin. the truck also has only "Truck" We always have a :"The truck" no matter whether it is an F-150 or a Ranger, or an avalanche. The volvo was once called "the vulva" by someone talking fast and that name kind of stuck (outside of polite company or kids). It will probably get a proper name if my daughter ever gets her license (we bought it for her use). One daughter had a Caravan for a time. Some of the letters fell off and it was labeled "A Van" the subsequent ones we pulled the letters off to match and always said "Are you taking A Van?" She now has a mercury (Taurus equivalent) that needs a name. POS is taken. She will have to come up with something. Maybe Corny - she loves unicorns. We are planning to wither put a horn on it or get a unicorn airbrushed on the hood next time she is gone for a week.
