Audi makes a beauty in the AWD A6/S6 Avant (wagon) but in their brilliant(?) marketing plan keeps it in Europe where it sells very well...they think the US is only SUV or small wagon country and push the smaller A4 based 'Allroad' model which is a wanna be SUV ... positioned in the narrow space between a crossover and an SUV...sorta like the Subaru Outback.
Since car people need more than one car, a sport(y) sedan would be my second choice (but I didn't vote for it...the poll should allow more than 1 vote maybe).
When I was younger it was/would have been a coupe...and a few years before that a convertible...oh, and I'll add that a BIG '5 door' (hatchback...) can be a great body style that combines the wagon and sedan attributes...the old Saab 9000 was such a car. ..also a pleasant memory.
I think someone upthread said 'it depends on the car' and also where it fits in your stable...and sadly, budget matters too .

MB makes the R class and BMW has the 3-wagon, but honestly how many do you see on the roads? Not enough to bring it here in my opinion.
I really think the best for me would be a practical car, with lots of headroom, adjustable seats, plenty of cargo space, good air conditioning, an engine that is good on gas, a car that is easy to park and environmentally friendly.
