All my life I always owned Ford or GM. Then I bought a Honda. Now I'm on my second one. My company car its a Dodge product. It's ok but don't think I'd have bought it myself. It'll take something big to get me off Honda. Since the bailout, I don't see myself ever buying anything GM or Mopar.

You should try driving a Mazda. Any Mazda. Or maybe a Subaru BRZ or WRX. Or one of the better Nissan models like that GT-R or a Juke. All very much the opposite of antiseptic.

GM makes plenty of antiseptic cars too. Seems to be what the masses want, curse them.

At first I assumed you were trolling but with a post count north of 7,000, you're probably being serious.

But, this entire comment is patently absurd.

First of all, the fact that Chrysler is owned by an Italian company has nothing to do with the prosecution of Amanda Knox; Fiat has nothing to do with that trial. Do you realize how many people are falsely imprisoned every year here in the State? Would that make you boycott American products? I didn't think so.

Secondly, If it's Obama's fault that Chrysler is now Italian owned, then I guess you'd have to say it is Obama's fault that Chrysler is doing very well under Fiat. They had 20%+ grown in 2012. They set 7 product sales records in June 2013. They just had the best June sales since 2007. Chrysler just announced in June that they were hiring 3500 American workers in the Midwest.

I ignore politics. I buy quality. I drive a 2003 Toyota economy car. I pride myself in keeping low mileage. So much so that I take advantage of being a renter and my next job is 40 miles away, so rather than commute 80 miles a day I am breaking my lease (one month penalty, so no problem) and moving closer to my new job. A car is a tool to get you to work. With the money left over (low maintenance costs) I invest it in stock index funds. Perhaps I could own a heavy duty 4X4 gas guzzler since I don't drive much, but no reason to buy another. I might return in a few years to where parking is very scarce. My dream is to own a German high performance car, but my mind says no. I can afford to, but it does not make sense.

Anyway, how does politics figure into your car buying experience?
Politics? Not much. I do have a preference for little rice-burners, as they have always been far, far more relibale than any Ford, GM or Chrysler.

^I concur.

Politics has never crossed my mind when purchasing a vehicle. When I saw the thread title, I thought maybe OP was talking about the political party of the salesman. I buy what I like. All car companies have factories outside the US, so that doesn't influence my buying either.

Not for something as expensive as a car, for which I am careful to get my money's worth and can't afford the luxury of a political statement.

But for small purchases, I lean toward buying products made in third world countries, even canned fish from China. Third world workers work harder than workers in the first world, and that, in my view, entitles them to a favored status in my buying habits. The world will not become a better or a safer place until there is better distribution of global wealth, and parochially concentrating the wealth in an already-opulent nation ("buy American") feeds the problem, not the solution.

Maybe you should buy a Mitsubishi then. I'm sure you would change your mind.
