I'm pretty sure my 1972 Impala did not have the 307, I think it was a 350, and I remember it had the Turbo-Hydromatic automatic transmission.

I also had a 1966 Chevy Caprice, with the 327 and a 4-bbl Rochester carburetor, and it was fast. I had it before I bought 1972 Impala.

(I might like an all black interior, however.)

The 1972 Olds Cutlass Supreme w/ 350. The one pictured here is My Beloved's first car, she got in way back in 1973 when the first owner couldn't keep up the payments. She only lets it out in nice weather.

I started with a 225 Slant 6... the "Big" one. The car was T-boned and beyond repair.

A few days later my Dad found an identical car... plus factory A/C with a 318.

Indentical in that it was the same color and wheel covers... etc.

The Slant 6 towed many a 1-yard trailer of concrete and was fairly thrifty on gas.

The 318 would tow anywhere I could get traction and a little more thirsty... also added a couple of leafs to the rear springs...

I took out the back seat and put in shelving for my tools and roof rack for longer material... had a complete 6' redwood fence 68' in length on the roof... boards, posts and rails and the concrete sacks in the trunk....

A 40 gallon water heater in the box would fit nicely across the back of the trunk too...

Those were the days... working on my first house with a shoe string budget.

Later I bought a 85 G20 Chevrolet Van... it was nice, but not as much power as the 72 318 AND people kept breaking into it because it looked like a contractors truck and the Valiant flew under the radar... also way cheaper to license on no SMOG!

They sure don't make them like they use too!

I loved taking long trips in Skylarks and Cutlass circa 1972 model year.

Had the 72 Sklylark convert and almost traded it for a 442 convert...

All this talk has me thinking fondly of the Cutlass Vista Cruiser with sun visors front and back...

I would love to have a Cutlass or Kingswood wagon... they were the backbone of many a family and you could fit a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood just about all the fullsize... although the clam shell tailgates only could handle a few because of the curvature.

When I was 16 two high school friends and I drove from Oakland to Vancouver BC over Easter break...

We were going to take my 71 Mustang Convert with a 351 Cleveland and 4 spd... one of the Dad's didn't want us driving it so he said we should take his 70 Eldorado... 500 ci and front wheel drive!

Why waste an attractive or collectible classic as a DD? Just get a 25 year old Camry if you really want to drive an old car every day.
