With government shutting down and pay being most likely suspended looks like I may be in SUV for a bit. I'd like to run one of those ceramic heaters, but if I constantly having to keep car running then whats the sense really. I've seen enough on shows like Myth Busters that your A/c and air compressor doesn't really affect your gas mileage to much so what's the point of having fan portable heater etc.
If I'm understanding you right, it sounds like you're saying you might be living in your car for awhile - and you're wondering how to keep warm during the Colorado winter.

If that's the case, I'd STRONGLY recommend that you go get a sub-zero sleeping bag. Seriously.

Good luck!

Good luck up there.

Running the heater won't impact how much fuel is being used at all, heat is a waste product from running the engine. Running the AC will have some impact, maybe not much but it is an additional load on the engine.

I don't know if it would be cheaper than just idling the car, but you might look at a Little Buddy propane heater, it's safe for indoor use.

Or consider driving south where it's warmer for the winter.
