The dump truck contributed to the accident but the guy filming is at fault.

When driving, you should be aware of what's happening around you, anticipate how it will affect you, and be prepared to react.

In this situation, I would have been keeping an eye on traffic that is merging and by the speed of the dump truck anticipate that it's probably not going to yield (it appeared to be going too fast). Then I would have braked or backed off to see how it was going to play out.

That car stopping, when it wasn't necessary, has to have some of the fault.

The vehicle with the camera that struck the car is partly at fault and the truck that failed to yield the right of way is partly at fault. You should never be going so fast, you can't anticipate a situation like this and be able to stop for the car in front of you. The vehicles were not on the freeway proper, but were on an off ramp.

I'd several things were at play here. The merging truck could have done better, but he didnt really impede anyone. The car had plenty of room to go, but they acted stupid and stopped. Unfortunately, stupidity is not a crime. That leaves the truck taking the picture, which i think is ultimately to blame. I saw no signs of slowing down to exit and so excess speed was a factor. The truck also didnt seem to respond very quickly which suggests the driver might have been distracted. Had he not been speeding, and if he was paying attention, he would have likely been able to stop and thereby avoid the accident. Sorry....but its your fault IMO.

The merging truck seemed like he had more room in front of him then the camera leads you to believe. It looked like he was slowing down to yield to the car, but still going a tad fast. I think the driver of the car panicked and hit his breaks when he had plenty of room.
Now, the truck that rear ended him seemed to be going too fast and was probably paying more attention to the merging truck then the car in front of him, or texting .

Just went back and looked at it again. That truck was rapidly approaching that car well before that other truck was even in sight. It didn't look like he slowed down any at all while exiting the highway. So sorry mister camera man, I believe it's "YOU'RE FAULT!!!!!"

The DUMMY who does not know how to watch traffic in front of him is obviously at fault.....he should get ticketed.

The person who braked made a reasonable move for the situation at hand. The person who rear-ended him fails at the art of adapting to the situation at hand and he also sounds like an idiotic hothead.

What they should do is stripe the lane the truck is driving in.....plenty of room to build up speed and merge, a lane within itself for quite a while.

But I don't blame the guy who braked.....it looked like a reasonable thing to do in that situation.

Imo, all three vehicles contributed to the accident with the person filming being most at fault.

If you study the video, at 0:12 you immediately should recognize the sticky situation. The dump truck was clearly going way too fast to slow down before entering the highway and then the car in front clearly overreacted by coming to a complete stop when there was plenty of room on the side.

The person filming struck the other car at 0:18. Six seconds elapsed which is plenty of enough time to react and brake in time. It's not even as if he was tailgating. He just failed to respond to what was going on in front of him. Honestly, I don't even notice much deceleration which is puzzling.

The gray car has no brake lights or at least they did not appear to come on. The center brake light in the rear window never comes on. A rear end crash is always the fault of the following car, unless later investigation shows that the front car brake lights are not operating.

The truck nearly came to a complete stop before entering the highway, even though he was already going slow enough that he could have expected the traffic to his left to be clear by the time he reached his merge.

The camera car is not going at excessive speed, this is an entry ramp, and he is going slower than the white pickup on the main highway, so probably about 55. .

Here is what the ramp lane looks like to the truck driver:

https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&l...278.04,,1,0.77

There is almost no acceleration lane, and British Columbia truckers constantly complain that the ramps are way too short. So, like many accidents everywhere, improper road engineering is partly at fault. Ramps like that accidents waiting to happen.
