In '97, my friend and I met up in Wilmington, NC. to walk down memory lane of the fun antics we have caused. We rented a GMC Jimmy 4x4 from the airport car rental and later that night went four wheeling in an open field north of Wilmington. Mud was caked on every inch of the car. We stayed at his in-laws place. When they (in-laws) woke up and notice the rental SUV, the mom had a heart attack. She said I was a bad influence. She later cooked her famous fried chicken for me because she saw the humor in it!
blatant disregard for speed bumps, humps, traffic calming devices and sometimes curbs. Late braking, hard accelerating, off roading, overloading, and every form of general abuse you'd never inflict on your own vehicle.
Well silly me. All of this time I've been treating rental cars gingerly when I could've been having some fun! I have to admit that there is something satisfying about driving a car into the ground. That's why I have such fond memories of my hoopty. That car went through three hands before I eventually destroyed it.
How do rental agencys know when there cars have been abused?
what is the worst form of abuse of a rental car that you have ever seen?
Nowadays, several rental car companies are "monitoring" their vehicles with some kinda technology under the car..
As far as the worst damage I've seen on a vehicle, thats a tough one. I've had several cars returned with cig. butts burned into the seats, people sleeping on top of the cars while camping out, going to concerts, and leaving dents there, even though these idiots told us! When we carried the Chrysler 300 hemi's, there were countless issues with transmission problems, overheating, etc. That's what happens when a rental car company provides a hot rod sedan for it's customers so its really not their fault.
This wasn't really abuse but someone did travel 6,000 miles in two days!!
They wern't happy when the charges were something like .25 a mile
