"The little problem about Hennessey’s claimed world record is that it wasn’t conducted in the same manner as Bugatti’s certified Guinness run. Hennessey admitted to Jalopnik that NASA wouldn’t let him run the car in opposite directions—Guinness requires an average of two runs to account for wind changes..."
"Oddly enough, while Guinness requires 30 cars to be built to qualify as “production,†Hennessey said he’ll only build 29. So far, he’s sold 11 for roughly $1.2 million apiece." A P1 or a 918 Spyder instead? Yes, most definitely.
I've been reading nothing but terrible things about him for 10+ years.... I'm surprised he's still around and not currently in prison.
Apparently, he is not directly involved with Hennessey Motorsports any more, but still gets money from them since they are still using his name. (From what I gather, there are still pending/ongoing lawsuits with the current shop name. I wouldn't be surprised if the shop changes the name entirely and drops Hennessey when all is said and done.)
And it comes with a microwave that seats 12? Got to love the American haters. Better from a socialist country than your own damn home, how sad!
This thing has its origins in Europe (has to be registered as a Lotus) but I don't look at origins, I just evaluate the final product. It would be stupid of me to purchase an inferior product simply because I thought it was more American than another. The whole issue of American made is a wash anyway since a great deal of the components in this car are likely designed or manufactured or both in another country. Cars in this price range are way out of my pocket book anyway, but if I could pick between the two, I'd go with the Veyron without question. It's a solid super car produced by a trusted business versus the kit car that Hennessey put together. It's a quick kit car for sure but at the end of the day I still have to register it as a Lotus.

So this is a p*****g contest between Germany (France) and the United States? That is just sad and pathetic. There is absolutely nothing socialist about VW. It is the most profitable auto maker in the world and has not been bailed out by the German government in the last decade.
