Maybe I'm the only person in the world who ever bought two new Renaults.
LOL. I once worked with a woman whose entire family drove Renaults. They were almost kind of exotic (the cars, not the family), especially compared to the Ford I was driving at the time.

Is there a 12-step group for that? I dunno ... I'm just getting used to a car after 1 or 2 years.
45 years old and have only outright purchased one vehicle. Leased a couple but since '01 I have only purchased pre-owned. I probably will never purchase brand new again.
Only when I need one. The first one I bought I sold two years later because I decided not to pursue my license yet. The one I have now, I've had for four years and I'll be driving it until it dies.
Every 10 years at least, more if I can get away with it. Since my commute is short I don't put a lot of miles on my car, that means a lot less turnover. My goal is to keep using that to my advantage in allowing me to invest the amount saved.
We had always bought new cars up and kept them for at least 11 years, most like 14 years. My dad always said " you buy a used car and you buy someone else's problems". Perhaps in the 50s and 60s that was true. I don't think so now. The last car we bought was in Dec. , a Lexus E350 2009 with only 16.5K miles from a private owner. It was a true garage queen and immaculate. We paid about half what a new one would be and probably not even get a loaded Civic for that price. Not sure I will buy new ever again.
I don't plan on ever buying brand new. The prices are ridiculous. I will keep a vehicle indefinitely. Paid off my truck a couple years ago which is my daily driver and paid cash for my '05 GTO last year which is sort of my weekend warrior/toy.
Hell with a car payment if I don't have to have one.
I bought my only NEW car back in 98 because I could pay cash and wanted to treat myself. I have since wised up and will only buy gently used cars with under 100k miles from here on out. I do 25-35k miles/year depending (I do not drive for work but I do commute). It makes ZERO sense for me to put so many miles on a new car and I certainly cannot lease one (mileage restrictions).
So, I buy one 4-6 years old and run it until it dies or I have a need for a different type of vehicle. I have had 11 cars/trucks and 4 motorcycles in my 25 years of driving and usually have 2 or 3 (+ motorcycle) at a time. I have bought a couple for around $500 but I usually stay in the $10k range so my payments are typically never more than $200/month. I do almost all my own work on my cars/trucks and most have over 200k miles on them when it was time for another one. My Maxima and Corolla had over 300k.
If you have the money and dont mind spending it, more power to you. I need people like you to generate well kept used cars for me.
