This wasn't a road test, this was more of a first look. I didn't know GM had to add around 300 lbs to the Opel Omega to meet US crash safety requirements. On appearance (interior & exterior), it looked like it should have been more successful. I hear it had mechanical problems. That combined with the cartoon duck & "Caddy that zigs" commercial, styling that offends traditional Cadillac customers, and import added cost doomed what could have been a good new direction for Cadillac.
Mmm... I had a red Stealth twin turbo just like that.
0-60 times were vastly under reported for that car, Motor Trend was the only mag back then that would dump the clutch and do a 4 wheel burnout, and could get a time of 4.9-5.1.
I am surprised that the RX7 managed a 5.2 here, a friend of mine had one back in the day and I'd always beat him to 120 mph.
First look 1997 Cadillac Catera. I didn't know they had to add around 300 lbs of weight to the car to bring the Opel Omega up to US crash safety standards just to bring the car here. The physical appearance and package looked like a good start for Cadillac. I heard they had mechanical problems along with that stupid cartoon duck "Caddy that zigs" commercial and putting off traditional Cadillac customers helped to shut down the car.
