Went for a drive in a friend's R8. He was taking it in to get chipped. Was pretty impressive and even more so the next day.

The R8 has lots of nice features and perks, Suspension tuning was handled very well from the cockpit. No need to dig out the wrenches, and added $2000 worth of custom gear.
Audi cars seem to 'fit' me real well, but I don't expect to ever own one.

It rains almost every day for a few hours where I live. In a Porsche, I wasn't happy doing 75 MPH in heavy traffic w/ heavy rain. It got hairy. I didn't want to be that "awake" at 4:30 AM every morning just to stay alive in my Porsche.

With this AWD Audi, I can quadruple the sex appeal of my Porsche, equal or come close to the driving experience and not worry about the weather- ever.

In this way I think it's a great "value" supercar.
What Porsche do you have? Which R8 are you going to get, the 8 or 10? The 10 has 140 more hp (430 vs 570) and the Lamborghini sound!

Unless they recently upped the horsepower on them, the V10 makes 525hp, only the special "race" versions have more than that.

In that case, I suggest the v8, hopefully it makes the audi have that audi sound.

If not, I can sell you a Dodge Caravan, with that sweet Viper sound...

When I googled it, it said range of 430-570. I clicked and built one on audi and the v10 plus has 550. (It's gotta keep staying in the turbo s range)

I drove both the R8 V8 and V10 back to back on a racetrack. If I was buying with my money I would easily buy the V8 w/6 spd manual trans and keep the extra 40k by not buying the 10 cyl/paddle shift combo.

Great cars but a 458 Italia is in another league!

You can get the v10 in 6 spd manual, would that make the difference? I haven't looked at any r8 forums, but I can't seem to wrap my head around why everyone would love the 8 over the 10 with the massive hp difference. Maybe there's more to it.

If the early ('08) ones go below $50k in the next couple of years, I'll buy my wife one.

How likely is that? They're $60-70 now.

Top Gear did a comparison with the two, there are things the v8 has, the other don't.
