You know the drill. Baby wants a new pair of shoes. She has had the 4.6 Genesis now with 90 k miles and likes a warranty so it expires at 100k....what a rocket.
So moi research starts and she says she likes the "look" of the Audi Q5 Diesel as she wants an SUV. After two weeks I know that the Audi is supremely comfortable, unreliable and expensive to repair. - A brake job is $800.00 and breaks typically last 50k miles- kidding? Nope. Sounded like my old MGB and the same temperament.
Darn. Is there any SUV with solid upscale credibility?

Disappointed. (again)
Brakes are a maintenenance item. They WILL wear out.
But yes... dealer brake jobs are highway robbery.
If you learn how to do them yourself it's more like $150 (that's using top quality ceramic pads) and it's not a hard job.
Buy a few cheap tools and a six pack, watch a video and have at it.
You can do tire rotations with the same tools and save a few more bucks.
My wife just settled on a Lincoln MKC in the smaller lux SUV field. Not the cache of the Germans, and probably will hurt a little on resale in comparison too, but it is very nice.
Of what we looked at, it blew away the Volvo XC60 (which I thought drove horrendously), and she liked how it drove a lot more than the Acura MDX (which is, granted, bigger, but the RDX did not satisfy tow rating needs).
The next best thing she liked was the Land Rover Discovery Sport, but it is impossible to get a hold of right now, meaning the deals are all in the dealers favor, and if you are concerned about repairs with an Audi I am sure the LR is nothing to check out.
Second greywiskers. Do NOT buy German.
What's wrong with Lexus? They have plenty for any walk of life and reliability is about supreme.
Oh, and don't buy British cars. As a friendly doctor said - to buy a Jaguar, you buy 2, one to drive, one as spare while the 1st one sits in repairs. Brits donno how to make reliable cars. fancy, yes, reliable - no.
Never had a single problem with my Lexus RX350. Bought new and has over 100k miles.
Lexus is the best luxury car out there if reliability matters to you. The only downside is that every neighbor seems to own one which the competitors make a point of emphasis in their commercials.

Like I said... Esp if you find one with J VIN. And RX400 or 450 H will get you around 30mpg at around 300 HP.

Yeah, that was funny (and true) 30 years ago, but it's no longer the case. Time to move into the 21st century with your recomnendations.
