I cannot imagine why they would even make a model without factory A/C today, unless its made for a specific part of the world where climate is not that hot.
The last vehicle I owned that didn't come with factory air was my 1989 GMC S-15. I took it down to Little Rock AFB in the summer of 1990 and quickly realized I needed A/C! I went to an A/C shop and they installed a factory setup for less that $1k. I think it was around $700. Now even in Alaska pretty much every new vehicle comes with A/C as standard equipment.

It was even weirder because it was a Splash (not an economy model) and it had a V6.
The manual and lack of A/C made it a very tough sell.

Manual was no issue for me, but no air was a non-starter. But I had already talked to the A/C shop.
They had the exact system Ford used, but it had the manufacturer's name on it, not Ford.
When they were done you could not tell that it didn't come with air unless you looked at the individual components.

I installed a kit in a VW camper years ago. Not too difficult, took some time. Had an AC shop charge it with refrigerant.

My truck is three years old. If I want A/C I tap the "Auto" button and set the desired temperature on the digital display. I remember the days of no A/C and this is much nicer.

Mine would be too if I wanted it to be. I tend to pay my vehicles off within a few years, but this one is going to be gone next year, so in no rush.
