I did a scan in my wife's car and it directed me all the way to the seat belt tensioner sensor. Went inline found the TSB dealing with the code ordered the part. It's a stupid seat belt piece that goes bad. $88for the part. I'm still learning but it does a ton of stuff. It will activate sensors and things like injectors. I tried it in my diesel. Found out I have a sticking injector. It's not bad yet but eventually I'll change it out. It was a bit pricey but if I only had one car it would not be extravagant.
Is one of your cars a Mercedes by chance? I was looking at their website, it's a little unclear if their software will work on AMG models (specifically the E63) after 2009.

No, I wish. It's probably better that I don't. Fast cars get me in trouble. That's a nice sleeper. I have two domestics two Asian brands. My neighbor has a MB but it's a regular MB not a AMG model. If you call the manufacturer they will tell you if the program works on your model.
My favorite diagnostic tool is a two-foot piece of broomstick. Hold one end against year your ear, and poke the other end around like a stethoscope to look for the source of strange noises coming from your engine.
WUT, I bought an actual automotive-stethoscope for about 5 bucks........broomstick????????
