Good evening all.

I am *this close* to owning a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L S, 5 speed manual transmission and 22,175 miles. It's $11,500. Pretty much all I need to do to drive this car home is switch my insurance over to full coverage for it on Monday when everything opens back up.

I test drove it and it's nice and smooth, like new condition really. I like it a lot, but I'm just wondering if I'm making a good choice overall? It is not terribly fast but that's fine, I'm not looking for fast..just comfortable and nice looking. Which this is. Anyone ever owned one that can tell me nhow you like it? This will be my first car that is so new, with such low miles. I have a 2003 Eclipse v6 convertible 5sp with 205,000 miles on it now and I'm definitely going to miss it. But only $300 a month...

Is that a good deal?
This dealer in Atlanta is offering a brand new 2016 Jetta S 5spd for $14k:
New VW Sales & Specials | Jim Ellis Volkswagen of Atlanta | New Car Specials
You might be able to find a similar deal locally.

Stick to a manual in VW's and they aren't terrible cars as long as you don't keep them forever. They are not the type you drive into the ground. After 5-7 years repairs will start to add up, it's the electronic controls and sensors that will add up over time vs Toyota and Hondas that typically will last quite a while.

While I love VW's I would buy a Mazda if you want something fun to drive, perhaps a Mazda 3 with a 5 speed. Great cars more fun then your typical Honda, Toyota. And just as reliable.

No! Get to a Toyota, Honda, Ford or Chevy dealer ASAP. The engine is the same piece of crap they've been using since 1993 and even then it was outdated and out classed.

115HP or 8 valve fury

Huh?

The VW 2.slow engine is actually the most reliable thing in that particular car most likely. It's been a good engine.

Fast? Powerful? No.

Reliable? Yes.

It's a VW so the rest of the car will fall apart like wet cardboard.

21 years later and all they can manage is a pathetic 115HP out of their base model engine. I have to give VW marketing credit for pulling it off.
